We start to see that Tom has a mistress and they gather at the apartment where the affair takes place. We see a party with a lot of low life people. We are exposed to a group that Nick really doesn't like. We see another side of the "upper class" of undesirables.

I must have been tired when I read this chapter, because when I reread the SparkNotes, I missed a few things. We do hear of Tom's affair, and realize how caually his infidelity is noted by the general public. Mr. Gatsby seems to be the hot topic of conversation.

I thought that Tom was very callous in his treatment of both his wife and his mistress. He also just made the presumption that Nick would and should go galavanting off with him to spend time with his mistress which was particularly odd, since Nick and Daisy are cousins.
How about how non chalaunt Daisy was about her child, as if she were just a bauble to be shown around, looked at then sent away?
