Chapter 3

This forum is for the discussion of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Chapter 3.

Gatsby throws large parties, where he knows no one. Nick meets Gatsby, but feels there is a little something off about him. Gatsby and Jordan have a private chat. I am surprised that Jordan and Nick are starting to date. She is shallow and a liar and he seems...better.

i was surprised that Nick dated Jordan, too, but i get the feeling that Nick tries very haard not to judge people and tries to understand what makes each indivdual tick, including Gatzby. i think he finds Jordan refreshing. I thought it was interesting how people just showed up at Gatzbys house and that was fine with him. there were all kinds of hangers on who just wanted to gossip and be in the 'right place'. It reminded me of todays times and the folks who orbit around the movie and tv stars, sports stars and politicians. they will drop them just as soon as they are not cool, or run out of money and wine!

I thought it odd that Gatsby just sits in the background observing people.

I think Tom is callous.
