This book was truly a portrait of sullen hardships of the time period. The book did have a "fairy-tale" ending, but there was sadness and harsh justice in the book. I enjoyed this book, but foremost understand why this was chosena classic by many people. Charles Dickens probably excelled in the writing of this book because he lived it and felt it. I am very familiar with Charles Dickens "Christmas Carol." It was the same sadness and poverty of Oliver Twist.
I would like to read one of Charles Dickens books that isn't in this time period. Can an incredible writer write a book that they haven't lived through their own life?
Do you know of any of his books that are not in this poverty stricken time?
