This book was the most enjoyable book yet for me. Stowe did a great job in telling her objectives in the book by making situations happen in the North and the South. For this book to be published in the 1850's was a ground breaking feat. She has accomplished her goal well. This is truly a classic in my opinion.

Ahab's Wife will be better than this one. This one is great but Ahab's Wife will be greater.

i felt like Tom represented a Christ like figure with the promise of everlasting life with Jesus for his suffering. Stowe shows how people can interpret the bible many ways, to justify ones ends. People in positions of power whether the master or politicians were influenced by greed and public opinion, but the young children and the uneducated blacks most often saw things as they really were.
There were lots of powerful women figures: Rachel Halladya and her ability to control her brood with calm words, Mrs. Bird who could overturn her husbands idea's so easily, cassy and her power over legree, even the dead mothers of St.Clare and of Simon Legree who still influenced their sons, albiet in differnet ways, after they were dead.
I like the story and am glad to have read it.
