According to SparkNotes, the scene in the carriage is famous, as it represents their sexual activity in the carriage. I of course, didn't pick up on this, but I think that is because I am having a hard time getting into this one. | |

| I had a hard time getting into this one too. I couldn't figure out why it was such a classic. We know from the beginning that there is misery. The only thing we are waiting for is how it ends. The last chapter. | |

| Is she weak or just bored out of her mind? I think the elder Mrs. Bovary was correct when she said earlier that Emma needes something to do! she just seemed so jaded when i read these chapters. | |
