Emma is never hapoy, after clinging to Rodolphe, then running back to her husband, then feeling disgusted with him runs back to Rodolphe. It seems no matter who or what, she won't be happy for long.

She is becoming more and more frivelous with her money, emotions, and behavior. She frequently forgets her child.

I had started to feel bad for Charles over the past few chapters, but this section reminded me what a weak individual he was.

I do wonder what keeps Charles going. Is it his work? I can't figure it out.

I liked how Spark notes refers to Emma's moral and finacial bankruptcy. She has become so self absorbed that she can't see what she has become in the eyse of the townfolk or of Randolphe. I wasn't one bit surprised that Randolphe didn't go thru with the escape. I still feel sorry for bumbling Charles who could have been happe in Toste with his practice where he was respected. he's has his limitations but so do many.
