| Chapter 1
The novel begins with Huckleberry's voice delineating this story from Tom Sawyer's story. He quickly gives the reader a glimpse at how the previous book ended, and we seem to pick up right where it left off.
According to the literature I read re: H. Finn, and SparkNotes this novel discusses many 'hot' issues more deeply than the previous. We see here that the widdow (who has previously been portrayed as one of the most kind, generous, and religous women in town) owns slaves. According to SN this is laying the framework for the rest of the novel and the ideas surrounding slavery. | |

| You probably read in Spark NOtes that the books was occasionally banned in the south. The boo is supposed to be anti slavery but some people are offended by Twains use of 'nigger' | |

| Interesting that this book had critics on both sides. I can't wait to delve in further. | |

| Huck tried to buck Widow Douglas and Miss Watson's good intentions. I think that he already has his values in place, and with Tom as his friend he sees no need to change. I think that is the way of the South. Don't change it if it's not broken. | |
