Chapters 25-27:

Well as far as the quietism technique goes, I completely missed that Osmund and Merle were lovers...good grief! I find it pretty creepy that Merle is trying to set up her old lover to impress him, and he doesn't care about her at all.
I felt bad that Lord Warburton had to run into Osmund. I felt closer to Warburton in this chapter and see him as a pretty good guy. Unfortunately Isabel likes the jerk, who wants to get rid of her 'bad ideas'.
The daughter is often referred to as a blank slate or a 'good girl', but I felt like she is so passive she has no personality at all, how boring for her. She seems to have been raised to be the type of woman her father wants to end up with.

Well, we found out what is up with Merle. She is a little schemer. I guess back in those days thats all they had to do. I do feel for Lord Warburton also. He is genuine. Osmond is a fortune hunter.

I was shocked to learn that Pansy was Merle's daughter and she didn't want to have any parental rights of raising her. That is quite weird for the times. Neither of them are married so that shouldn't have been an issue, except that Merle is probably more selfish than we give her credit for.

Now we aren't supposed to know that yet right. SparkNotes sorta through a spoiler in I think. So maybe we will know more about the reasons when it is introduced in the book.

Yeah they spoiled it. We were suppose to pick up on, weren't we.
