| Book 6:
Not quite the end I was expecting, but I am glad that Venn got his girl. I found it interesting that Hardy would change the ending of his novel to meet popular opinion.

| As always the "schmuck" gets left behind like Madame Bovary. I feel that this novel was a lot more enjoyable because it didn't droan on like Anna Karenina.
Kelley and I realized that these European Literature choices are like modern day soap operas. A lot of talk about very little.
Better than Anna. I think the writing was a lot alike too.

| It is interesting how much these novels are like modern day soap operas. There are many passionate romances, instant love connections, stormy breakups, deception, manipulation, murder attempts, and fantastic death scenes. All we need now is for someone to come back from the dead ten years later, pregnant!! | |

| Remmber that this book was serialized, meaing it was published in sections in a magazine or newspaper. i think the author wrote with that in mind. he had to have a bit of spice in each section to keep the readers interest and he did not want to tie up too many loose ends, to quickly. It kept readers buying! It was less wordy than Anna and got to the crux of the story much quicker. There were stilll several sectons that I would have trimmed had I been the editor, but overall and easier read, with a good plot. | |

| That is a good point that the original work was written for readers to pick it up every month. I can see that now that you said that. | |
