| This is a slow set of chapters, where Ishmael spends time, a lot of time, describing characters, symbols, whaling and the importance of each.
We do in chapter 41 though, hear the story of Moby Dick and Ahab.

| Ishmael starts talking about Moby-Dick and the whales possible supernatural origin.
Then comes the chapters of the topic "white." What is that all about. What was Melville thinking. I wonder what went through his mind to orient anything white to a whale. Did he think the audience would like this side diversion.
Daily life goes back in play and there is some narration of what a slow time is on the ship. While they are making mats they have a whale sighting. Everything is dropped and they all take their positions.
Ishmael does ponder what Captain Ahab's drive is to go after Moby-Dick. Revenge is the obvious, but that is some big revenge that he is undertaking. He not only is doing it for himself, but he is getting the whole ships crew in on it too.

| I was surprised that the entire ship was willing to go along with the plan of revenge, although he did give a pretty convincing speech. | |
