| Chapter 9 seems to sum up everything that the rest of the novel is saying with its symbolism and innuendo. Orwell lays it all on the table so that there is no mistaking the purpose of his novel. Again some of the similarities, the ideas, the propoganda is so similar to current day politics it is disturbing and haunting.
The thought police come and take Julia and Winston, I am not surprised at the camera in the room (thanks alot spark notes) but I was surprised to find out that the shop keeper was a member of the thought police.
We all knew this way coming. | |

| yes, I was completely caught off gaurd about the shopkeeper and I had read the darn book before. Julia has always had a more fatalistic view of everything but poor winston. | |

| It was interesting to read the very convoluted way the author was able to justify the slogans war is peace, ignorance is knowledge, etc. I was right with him with regard to some points. | |

| I was not really surprised about the shopkeeper. If they were going to put children in positions of being spys then why not the proles. | |
