In this section Bigger begins to realize that he has madestupid mistakes and misjudged his family/friend and other blacks. He also recognizes that Jan and max and decent people which leads him to think that maybe other whites could be decent, even mary and her family and that other blacks were doing the best that they could in their circumstances. he regrets murdering and contemplates what he might have done differently

I think that Bigger learned that there is not just "white" people, but "good" people in every race. That seemed to be a good lesson that Bigger started to grasp onto.

To elaborate on what you said Marti,I think Bigger realizes that there are good and bad people in every race, and that he has been one of the bad of his race. He is now wishing that he had a chance to live his life with this knowledge, and not be that person. He also seems to struggle with knowing and hoping for a different life in the face of death.

I agree, brienne. He only comes to this conclusion at or near the end of his trial.
