Bigger has killed Bessie and Mary, and is now on the run. Ironically Bigger feels more free now than he ever did before he was on the run. As he flees through town and flees across the rooftops, he constantly contemplates comitting more crimes of violence to get away.

I may have stated this elsewhere, but I do not like the inference that Bigger HAD to kill those women to feel free. he was lazy in many ways, and self centered. he bullied his family and friends trying to be cool. I could see a lot of the same kinds of things we are seeing today in the punks, thugs and wannabes. That bigger could cut off mary's head was really saying something about his character, i thought.

I believe that there is good in everyone. Bigger is probably just a sociopath. He doesn't have any moral values at this point.
