It is all coming to a head. Lily's behavior is catching up with her, and her indifference to people's feelings is going to backfire. She is now faced with Seldon's leaving and Mr. Rosedale's proposal.

No surprise that Rosedale has spread the rumor of an affair between lilly and Seldon although we know he is interested in her himself, I wonder that he would damage her reputation. Mr. Trenor makes clear his thoughts of Lilly and feels taken advantage of. Lilly realizes that she was taking advantage of him, in particular as a friend she could count on, which has now been squashed.

i WAS JUST READING THE SPARK NOTES ON THIS CHAPTER. It mentions that Lillys only way out are 'love or death. Love had nothing to do with her interest in Grice and she knows she loves Seldon yet she won't consider him. I think the choices are wealth or death.
