| Book 2 Chapters 1-3
This is the beginning of the end for Lily. She decides to join the Dorsets as they travel on the Riviera (even though Bertha has stabbed her in the back once). When Mr. Dorset finally discovers his wife's infidelities, Lily tries to help mend the fences, but Bertha again hangs her out to dry. Selden is available to help pick up the pieces, but at quite a cost to himself.

| With Lily having very little to work with, she is setting herself up again by staying at Jack's. Granted there is nowhere else to go, she is getting deeper adn deeper.
You are right Kelley, I think this is the beginning of the end for Lily.

| i think Wharton portrayal of lillys contant bad judgement is portrayed throughout these chapters. Everything she does, while we as reders have insite to her motives, are misconstured by her peers. granted this is helped along by rumor from her friends who are jealous of her beauty and now while in Europe, her connections and easy friendliness with the upper crust there. | |
