Chapters 32-35:

We see that Tom is childish and looking for adventure, where Huck understands the urgency of getting Jim out quickly and without fan fare. Huck has lived life and experienced many real threats, where Tom has just imagined. It is too bad that Huck doesn't have the courage to stand up to Tom yet.

Huck has learned to be clever in his few years he's been around. I agree Tom is not taking this as serious as Jim. Huck also has bonded with Jim and Tom might be just doing this for the "adventure."

I was turned off by Toms silliness. I wanted to speed through this and get to the poiny, get Jim out and move along.
Huck is feeling sinful about 'stealing' Jim and actally think less of Tom because he willing to get involved in letting Jim go. I think, as you both stated, he is just in it for the fun, just like when he tricked his aunt.
I am surprised Huck did not say something to Tom oabout the urgency of letting Jim go.
I loved that the Royalty got thier comupence and I hope they don't reappear in the story.

I agree mom, the 'royalty' were in the plot line TOO LONG. They were predictable and it was nice to see them go.
