| Hester takes a large step and introduces Dimmesdale to Pearl. This is a brave step for Hester. Pearl realizes more than Hester thinks. Dimmesdale and Hester plan to go to Europe in four days. Dimmesdale is preparing for a sermon for the Election Day celebration. He confronts Chillingswoth and speculation from both begin. Dimmesdale becomes more bold and throws an old sermon away and starts a better one for Election day. With this self-realization of love for Hester, he makes a better speech and shows more confidence in himself. This is a new transformation for him. | |

| Dimsdale who has always seemed so weak, yet faithful, to both Hester and the church, is now faltering in his new found freedom.
I find it interesting that he and Hester choose to move back to Europe, instead of just a new town in America. | |
