| Well as in the Spark Notes, Jane Eyre's life is in the third stage. It goes much slower and I can really identify why. Reading about a poverty stricken child can only go so far into describing. Mr. Rochester and Jane had some very interesting conversations. Mr. Rochester comes off as a snob, but explains to Jane that he hasn't had much use for "pleasantries."
He does have a heart somewhere because he took Adele in not knowing whether she was his daughter or not. Then he keeps his distance.
I did enjoy how Adele seems so playful. Charlotte Bronte made Adele an average child, which I thought was nice. A lot of times in stories a character like Adele is exceptional in some way.
I read the Spark Notes and it stated that I quote (I always wanted to say that) "Jane acquires the manners, sophistication, and education of an aristocrat while remaining penniless and powerless." I wonder if Charlotte Bronte finally thought enough of herself to see herself like that.
It is good to see that Jane saw that little snake of jealousy too.
This book is much more pleasurable than the other Victorian novels we have been reading ex. P & P, OT. | |

| I like this book, just as it slows down a bit, something is thrown in to spice it up again.
Adela seems to be the oposite of Jane. She had a similar begining, being (most likely) orphaned, but she was taken in by the wealthy Mr. Rochester. Where Jane, on the other hand, was orphaned, and though taken in by wealth, treated as a servant. The difference in their treatment will clearly make the difference in how their lives will turn out.
I find it difficult to see Adela as anything but a regular child, especially when all of her conversation is in French. I don't feel like I am able to get a good feel for her. | |

| I think Jane eyre was the catalist for many of the bodice rippers of today . The Dark and stormy lodge, the mysterious but devilishly attractive man, the virgin herione who must figure things out on her own and the ghostly suspense! that is repeated constantly in the romances of today.
Yes Adele was an orphan but her early years were happy with her mother, it sounded like. She has had a pretty carefree existance to our knowledge. she will never be quiet and introspective and humble like Jane.
How did you like the part where Rochester states he 'bears a conscience ' just because he has a big forehead!? | |

| Adele intrigues me. She really is average and only wants the love of Mr. Rochester.
