Section 5: Chapters 1-4

In this section Raskol confesses to the murders, and realizes himself that he is not one of the 'extraordinary men'. It seems at this time that the reason he commited the murder was to see 'if he could' to see 'if he had a right too'.

Svid also overheard the confession, that opens Raskol up for more trouble, now that his secret is out.

I can't really see that. (Raskol just doing it if he could). What a warped way to live in poverty.

it hought raskols earlier allusion to the great leaders before him who had lots of tihngs going for them (great armies, etc) would have done whatever it took to get ahead and be successful. He, who had little going for him bu still had a great desire to get out from under the deb of his sister and family weighed himself against those great leaders and that was what geve him permission to committ the crime.
