Book 2 Chapters 1-3

Well if you are looking for romance, this affair is not going to give it to you. These two use their affair as a politcal act, an act of rebellion, it has little to do with feelings at all.
During this set of chapters they make an interesting point about the party using sexual repression to increase the energy and fanatcism for the Party and Party functions.
I think there may have been a bit of foreshaddowing here that the pair or at least Winston is going to get caught on his next trip to the field.

Julia is very matter of fact about sex and has many partners whom she choose because they are 'interesting'. Orwell was pretty graphic in his depiction of them and sex. Maybe i didn't get all te allusions and what they meant in highschoolI because i was too inexperienced, myself. i thought it was interesting that Orwell would think that having julia put on make up was so sonderful.
I noticed that Orwell did not conceive of disposable diapers in hi futuristic tale.

I think it is interesting to look at all of the things that Orwell did v. did not think of...that have come to pass since 1984 and 1984.

As always sex is a tool. Athletes use abstinence to make them more passionate about the game.

It is incredible the Wells understood this.
