As Emma tries to find money we see her progress from begging but being offended by the lawyers advanced, to flirting with the tax collector, to prostituting herself back to Rodolphe.

I disagreed with SparkNotes, that the only power women had is their sexuality. Clearly Emma had much more power in her household, including complete control of thier assets (since she was POA). The fact that she used that power inappropriately does not take away from the fact that she indeed had power at one point, other than her sexuality.

Her death embodied her life. She thought that it would be beautiful and romantic, and it was disgusting and dirty.

She may have only felt stimulated by the power she had in her sexuality. I think the book said her husband went thru her dowery in only two years. She certainly had charles wrapped around her finger but it was a case of female sexuality/charm. she used it on everyone even with regard to the feminine ability to be weak and sickly and have it all excused as natural.
her imagination and thought processes were brought to light many times in the book. She obviously spent a lot of her free time just thinking about things, including her death and how it might be persieved by others.
