In these chapters Justin's character comes together. He is more like Ahab than Una. I kind of don't like him. He is a bit strong-headed for a young boy, but it needs to be considered that he is not raised by his father.

Una and Mary agree that the best thing for his pain is moving to Sconset. Una finds happiness and peacefullness there too. I'm glad.

Una takes to star gazing and realizes she's not looking for Ahab anymore, but the stars and the vast world up there.

Let me know what you think about the star gazing chapter. I don't think I got the full meaning. The original book was called the Star Gazer, so I know that it is really significant.

I can't speak with authority on the stargazing chapter.. i remember thinking she was facinated with them and maybe in their constnancy, which wwas something she lacked in her life. maybe that they were all encompassing, looking down on all the people she cared about all at one time.

She only took up with the stars when she realized that Ahab would probably not return.

There might be a correlation with the two.

I thought that it was symbolic to Una that her gaze and her interest shifted from the sea to the stars, at the same time she realized that her husband was no longer at sea, but metaphorically in the sky.

All of this time her neighbor, Marie, wanted her to star gaze with her, but her preocupation was with her husband. Now she finds peace star gazing.

I like that interpretation about moving her interest from the sea to the stars.

Thanks
