PostSubject: The Journey #13   Mon Mar 19, 2007 4:17 pm

Well Una has to start making her past relationships right. She goes to the Lighthouse and she finds out that they have moved. She heads right for Kentucky.

She finally gets there and takes up where she left off with her mother. She shares the spring, summer and fall with her mother visiting, gardening, canning, etc for the winter. I'm so glad that Una could have a kinswoman relationship again. She was out to sea for a long time.

I am surprised that her mother didn't want to move to Nantucket yet. She still had her life in Kentucky, even though her husband has been gone for four years.

Here is where the book starts - - - - - - - Una looses her mother in a blizzard and her baby a day later. Susan is introduced to the story, although it is a minor part. I wonder why she was written in as a character.

David Poland was a charming young man. David was not that horrible of a man if he let Susan go, and return to the cabin for shelter knowing that Una knew who he was.

A great friendship developed during the journey home. He confided that he killed his brother-in-law and she confided that she was a cannibal once.

Like it said in the book, "how many times do I have to be forgiven for this heinous crime?" First Charlotte was told and then David.

I forgot completely about the first part of the book until the mother left in the storm. Poor Una has had quite a few trials in her life time, but as David pointed out, she is tolerant and adaptable.

I wonder where she got the tolerance from when she was so outspoken with her father. That took a lot of courage and determination to speak up to her father. He was always on the verge of hitting her.
